PCB's in Fish Oil supplements -- lawsuit filed

An environmental group filed a lawsuit in San Francisco on Tuesday alleging that 10 types of fish oil or shark oil supplements contain a toxic industrial compound, and that manufacturers and sellers need to warn consumers.  The plaintiffs in the lawsuit tested 10 products, all of which had some amount of PCB, they say.  The lawsuit names CVS/Pharmacy, General Nutrition Corp. (GNC stores), Now Health Group, Omega Protein, Rite Aid, Solgar, Twinlab and Pharmavite, which produces Nature Made supplements, as defendants.

All of the fish oils carried at Tara Natural Medicine are rigorously tested for contaminants, including PCB's and heavy metals.  If you have any questions about the quality of your fish oil, or are changing to an oil that we recommend, please contact us!

Study Links Reduced Fertility to Flame Retardant Exposure

The first study linking flame retardant exposure to impaired fertility was released earlier this month by UC Berkeley researchers.  The chemical causing the reduced fertility, pentaBDE,  was primarily used in furniture and baby product foam to meet the California furniture flammability standard TB117.  Although this flame retardant has been banned by the Stockholm convention and is not currently made, most of the pentaBDE that was ever produced is still in furniture, baby products, and carpet cushion in homes in California and other states.  See the rest of the article here:

from The Atlantic magazine, November 2009
